Leeds Festival - Work in the Crew Cafe!

Orange Festival Foods (the company which runs the Leeds Festival crew cafe) has been in touch – they are looking for fifteen more volunteers to work in the cafe!

It's a similar setup to other volunteering opportunities; you get a pass to the festival in return for 24 hours voluntary work in the cafe.

If you are working at the 2010 Leeds Festival with Hotbox Events and will be driving to site and needing to park your vehicle in the staff car park please login to PAAM ASAP as a new question has been added:

"If you are working at the Leeds Festival will you be driving a vehicle which you’ll need to park in the staff car park?"

If you answer yes we'll send you a staff parking pass with your CAT Info Pack.

It is very important you select yes if you will need a staff parking pass!

Spencer Tunick Naked Art Installation

A huge thank you to all who worked with Hotbox Events at the 2010 Big Chill Festival! All of our staff and volunteers did a fantastic job at covering the varied positions we were asked to fill, often with very little notice!

Along with the CATs in the campsites, the HATs in the kids area and roaming the arena, those asked at the last minute to work on the various stages, installations, keep a check on the showers, look after the wildlife and more all did a fantastic job and we've received some great feedback.

We'd like to send a special thank you out to those who went above and beyond - helping out with the Big Burn on the Sunday night and in particular the Spencer Tunick Art Installation on the Sunday morning! We were definitely not expecting to be asked to steward a thousand naked festival goers and the odd naked member of festival production!

A couple of Hotbox Events staff would like to thank you all personally, please find their messages below.

Message from Rob Donovan follows...

At The Big Chill I faced possibly the strangest requests of my life - "Can you find 20 volunteers to steward around 1000 naked people tomorrow?". Knowing that our CATs & HATs are up for anything, even vast amounts of early morning nudity, I said I was sure I could find some willing volunteers to come along.

We arrived on the scene bright and early (6.30am) the following morning prepared to help Spencer Tunick and his team and were split into two groups - one manning the gate and one helping by the lake directing people joining in the art, ensuring that no non naked people got into the shot, moving bits and pieces around and generally helping the artist and his team.

We got the models through the gate and to the paining areas very quickly, closed off the top of the ridge way to everything expect production traffic so no people would wander into shot and Spencer Tunick took his photo. The whole affair ran very smoothly and the naked people seemed to really enjoy it.

Thank you too all the CAT & HAT volunteers who came with us and helped to make this possible. As I say it was one of the more surreal roles we have had to for fill but you took everything, even 850 naked people, in your stride remaining your enthusiastic, helpful and professional selves. Special thanks go to those who came from Team D and stayed on an extra two hours after the end of their night shift to make this possible.

Having been a CAT for a few years at Latitude and Reading and taking on more diverse roles each time, I didn't hesitate when I was asked to go to the Big Chill and be one of the Hotbox Events-Festival Republic mini-bus drivers.

I had absolutely no idea or expectation that I would be approached by one of the management team asking "what are you doing at 6.15am tomorrow"? to which I replied... "maybe sleeping off the night before's birthday beers"... which was quickly followed up with "so do you fancy assisting a 1,000 naked festival goers for the Spencer Tunick photo-shoot"?

How could I refuse.

Part of my role in assisting the naked people was to guide them towards the different queues for their allocated colours for their body paint and to keep them in their colours.

When Spencer Tunick noticed that there was both vehicle and pedestrian traffic on the ridgeway, which was affecting his shots, I volunteered to be on the ridgeway at one end stopping vehicles and pedestrians so they would not be in shot.

It also gave me the opportunity to stop (in a friendly and professional manner) Melvin Benn in his buggy and have a nice chat with him whilst the shoot was continuing below us.

The shoot ended around 10.15am and appeared to have been a success, lots of naked and by now semi-naked people in the vibrant colours making their way back to their campsites or to the arena.

I was glad to have taken part in this historical and unique experience.

2010 Reading and Leeds Positions!

Festival Republic has some Green Messenger positions available at the 2010 Reading Festival and 2010 Leeds Festival!

To volunteer as a Green Messenger you'll need to have a passion for sustainability issues and the desire to get people recycling and composting. In return for 24 hours of voluntary time Festival Republic will provide a full weekend pass to the festival!

The role of the Green Messenger includes:

Advising the campers about the recycling initiatives.
Handing out bin bags to people on arrival.
Advising festival goers about how to recycle onsite.
Being part of the Festival Republic Recycle Exchange team.
Salvaging and scavenging good quality re-usable gear that’s left in the campsites.

To be a Green Messenger you will need to be:

Over 18 years old at the time of the festival.
Be willing to pay a refundable deposit.
Have approval to work in the UK if not an EU citizen (holiday work permits are okay).

As a Green Messenger you will have access to crew camping, showers and toilets!

Festival Republic's 2010 Reading Festival & Leeds Festival 'Health & Safety at Festival Sites Terms and Conditions for Employees 2010' is now in Hotbox Events PAAM!

This document is issued in order to ensure that the duties and rights of you, the employee, and of your employer, The Event Organiser are clear.

The Event Organiser, has a legal obligation to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. As an employee, you have rights, and you have responsibilities for your own wellbeing, that of your colleagues and to the general public. This document explains what these responsibilities are, and how you can meet them.

The Event Organiser acknowledges that production tasks do not take precedence over safety and shall ensure that safety comes first at all times.

Before you can work with us at the 2010 Reading Festival or Leeds Festival you MUST READ the 'Health & Safety at Festival Sites Terms and Conditions for Employees 2010'. When you book in onsite you will be asked to sign to confirm you have read, understood and agree to abide by the terms.

We will have copies available onsite but to help with expediting the booking in process - please do read via PAAM if you can.

New Big Chill Staff Positions Available!

Hotbox Events has been asked to supply 3 extra (paid) staff for the Big Chill Festival! We need 3 people to drive the internal crew shuttle bus (minibus). This will mean ferrying various festival staff around the festival site.

Full briefing and training will be provided onsite.

You will need to be able to arrive onsite on Wednesday 4th August for a briefing, then available to work from Thursday 5th to Monday 9th August.

If you're interested in one of these new positions please contact us ASAP!

Please note - you will need to have a full UK driving license and be over 25 years old (insurance).

Big Chill Festival - Crew Shuttle Buses

Big Chill Republic has organised a free crew shuttle bus service to assist staff and volunteers in getting from the Great Malvern Station to the Big Chill Festival site and back!

On Wednesday 4th August the crew shuttle bus will be meeting trains arriving at Great Malvern Station at 14:00, 16:00 and 20:00.

For the way home on Monday 9th August the crew shuttle bus will be leaving the Big Chill Festival site to meet trains departing the Great Malvern Station at 16:00 and 17:00.

If you wish to take advantage of this free crew bus service you will need to show your info pack on the Wed and your crew band on the Mon.

Public buses will also be running throughout the Monday, please visit the Big Chill Festival website for info:

Please find below a message received for all those who worked with Hotbox Events at the 2010 Latitude Festival...

Could you please pass on my thanks to all the CATs and HATs who volunteered at 2010's Latitude Festival.

This year they had a lot to deal with and they did it with a smile on their faces. They were asked to fulfil many different roles during the festival and rose to the challenge every time.

The support team of supervisors and management did an extremely professional job in getting information filtered through to all the volunteers and through them to the public, which during difficult and delicate times was a job very well done.

I look forward to working with you and your team of brilliant volunteers again very soon.

2010 Latitude Festival Feedback
